To everyone – artists, participating businesses and the always open hearted Cathedral community – for your support of HIGH FIBRE CONTENT!

What can I say? It was a blast. I’ve been asked if Traditions plans to do it again next year, and the answer is, ABSOLUTELY. Start planning your projects now!

CONGRATULATIONS! to Jennifer Shelley Keturakis for winning FAN FAVORITE for HFC 2010, for her Candy Tree at Dessarts. The great news is – that fibre installation is staying up! So if you haven’t seen it in person yet, you still have some time.

Congratulations also to Alyce Gibson who wins the draw for a lovely Heike Fink, Felted Nuno Scarf from Traditions!

Special thanks to Nancy Wirtz, Susan Wittrup and Dale Lowe for helping to install and remove the fibre installations.

Also, thank you to Beth at A la Carte for the yummiest cookies ever – they were so good, I forgot they were good for me. Cookies without the guilt? Heaven!

At Golden Willow – see this beautiful felted door (what a great alternative to stained glass!!!) and go inside as well to see some incredible felted, knit and woven works of fibre art.

Traditions artist Nancy Wirtz created a beautiful Raven doll/sculpture. We found a lovely home for him perched on the fence at Gale’s where he has a great view of all the happy shiny people strolling by.

Sure it’s rainy, but it’s nothing that a pair of rubber boots and an umbrella can’t handle. And all that fibre art is certainly braving this chilly fall day.

So why not get out there to take in some of these great sites – and then treat yourself for conquering the elements with some warm soup at 13th Avenue Coffee House, where you can also admire this incredible work of art by Saskatoon artists Megan Morman and Cindy Baker.

And if you’ve got more of a sweet tooth on these gloomy days, Dessarts has plenty of gumballs and jawbreakers, inside and out!

Part of the goal of this project was to help beautify the Cathedral Neighborhood, so Traditions artist Cindy Obuck designed this lovely floaty piece especially for an unused sign frame outside of Employment Network – owner Linda Langelier was pleased about the addition.

On Saturday, volunteers (and talented fibre artists, found only at Traditions) Nancy Wirtz and Susan Wittrup helped me install work for High Fibre Content all along 13th Avenue.

In addition, the Fibre Posse was busy yarn bombing the 3300 block of 13th, and Paper Umbrella brought Martha Cole’s book project out to to the street.

A la Carte is offering high fibre COOKIES all week. Come by Traditions in the afternoon between 2-4pm on Wednesday September 22nd to have a taste during the High Fibre Content reception.

Without fibre, you’d be naked!
